We spent the weekend at the South Sound, docking at the Swantown Marina in the Port of Olympia. It's a couple of hours drive South from our place - through freeways and traffic that we don't miss. Our neighbors wanted to check out the south sound as the waters are more protected and calmer that the north sound and he is a relatively new boater. Friday night the sunset was beautiful. We decided to explore the area Friday after putting in and tieing up to our slips. The waterfront area is nice. The areas they have redone are very nice and the beautification is still in progress. We walked all around the area and enjoyed the nice waterfront as well as continued down town which was a mixture of old and older. The capital building is beautiful and we really appreciated the park with water squirting up from the holes in the waterpark area. With it extremely hot for us - high 90's - we were ready for a cool down before walking back to the marina. Was fun viewing the gorgeous sunset from the back of the boat. We took the boats out Saturday and our neighbor's, Dan and Tanya, anchored their C-Dory and we tied up next to them. The water was actually very cold and we decided not to swim (actually the water wasn't that clear either and we longed for our clean, clear water), but put our feet in off the swim platform and they turned red (should have turned blue with how the water felt) within a very short time. Did cool us off.
We ate dinner across the water from our marina at Tugboat Annies and was fun to dock the boats and go to the restaurant and then go back to the boat and head to our marina. We waited a short time to get in as a wedding was in progress, so we watched the wedding as everyone was facing us (would have walked right through the wedding if we'd gone in...wouldn't have been appreciated, I'm sure).
There is a wonderful Farmer's Market near the marina that we also walked to each day and purchases the most delicious black cherries I have ever eaten. Their peaches and fresh salad mixes were very good as well.
After returning back home, we washed and dryed the boat and jeep and put the boat back into the boathouse. Is fun sleeping on-board, but very nice getting back to our queen size bed at home.
